A proposal has surfaced for logging in the Watershed ... (and another for Blanchard Mt)

Here is a 2-question Quiz for you:
1) What five Whatcom County residents were appointed to the DNR "Lake Whatcom advisory committee" in February 2005?
    ans: (click)
2) What actions have they taken to protect the Lake?
ans: I have not heard of any. Have you?

We oppose any clearcut logging in the watershed, like the area in this 2005 photo, which appears to be just outside the watershed on the north slope of Stewart Mountain.
With the dusting of snow on this area that was recently clearcut - it is VERY obvious the ruts in the soil left by the dragging of tree trunks upslope to the hoisting tower.
Vegetation on the land captures rainfall so it does not impact the soil so strongly, and the roots hold soil and the sub-soil in place. These both reduce erosion, and reduces the amount of water that flows off a property and the speed with which it flows - reducing the carrying of soil into the streams and the lake.
And since soil carries pollution, less soil movement means less pollution into the lake - a very good thing.
The area in the planning sketch below, is just to the right of the already-done clearcut, which was outside the watershed. Click on the sketch to see the project-map and a dynamic image.
